The same thing happened to me last month when i got jabbed under my index fingernail after helping mum lift and divide perennial plants out of the garden.I treated it by soaking my finger in hot salty water for a few minutes and then treating with TCP ( or Lysol as you would know it as ).That cleans up the area and disinfects and heals the infection.

When my finger got worse, I went to the doctor. She put me on an antibiotic that made me physically sick. Said there was a good possibility that I would have to be on several courses of meds. The 3rd being one that cld cause liver damage. I was not into this. So I went to my church and asked them to pray for my finger. My finger is not extremely tender anymore nor is purple or swollen like it was a week ago. I am so very thankful!!!

Make sure you are up to date with your tetanus injections, if not go to the Doctor and get a booster shot, and have the Doctor check your finger if you are worried.

When I went to the doctor she did not have a clue. Putting me on antibiotics not an option as I do not tolerate chemicals in my body very well. I got physically sick. Her options were scary. I opted for prayer instead. My finger is doing much better for which I am most thankful!!! :) :) For about 3 wks it was quite painful. Swelling has gone done! :) It is no longer purple. :):)

If it has infection/puss take a needle heat it over a flame then puncture the puss pocket and drain it. Then clean the area with betadyne and then wrap it with a bandage. If it is just sore it will most likely clear itself up in 2-3 days. Just from experience. The following is from the pages of katy memorial pediatrics i do not claim or have  rights to this information and neither does blur it- FINGERNAIL INFECTION  DEFINITION •A large pimple at the junction of the cuticle and the fingernail •Redness and tenderness of this area •Occasionally, pus draining from this areaCAUSE Those with a large pimple or is draining pus are usually infected with the Staphylococcus bacteria. The bacteria usually enters the skin through a break in the skin caused by pulling on or chewing on the cuticle. If the cuticle area is only red and swollen, it is due to Candida (yeast). Yeast infections usually occur in children that suck their thumb or finger, swim a lot, or have waterlogged cuticles from other activities.EXPECTED COURSE With proper treatment, this infection should clear up in 7 days. If not, your physician will probably prescribe an oral antibiotic.HOME TREATMENT Antiseptic soaks If the cause is bacteria, soak the infected finger three times a day for 10 minutes in warm water and liquid antibacterial soap. Do this for 4 days, or longer if the wound has not healed. Antibiotic ointments For bacterial infection apply an antibiotic ointment 6 times a day. Cover it with an adhesive bandage. Continue to apply the antibiotic ointment until no signs of infection remain. Open and drain any visible pus pocket using a needle sterilized with rubbing alcohol or a flame. Make a  opening where the pus pocket joins with the nail. If the pus doesn't run out, gently squeeze the pus pocket.

If you suspect this infection was acquired at a nail salon after a manicure, it would be best to seek medical attention. While draining the pus may relieve the pain, it will not resolve the infection. Usually, once you have symptoms of an infection, such as the presence of pus, the bacteria MAY have entered the blood stream. Infections acquired at a nail salon can be dangerous, so please see a doctor as soon as possible.

No puss. Clear liquid care out when it drained. Last week it bled some. Because of what the doctor said I decided to get prayed for at my church because the antibiotic made me physically sick. I very much appreciate your and the other Blurtit folks input...VERY HELPFUL!! :) :)
