This entirely depends on the person and their situation. For some people the drugs are a way to "leave" the real world for a while. Others are following the only thing they know either because they grew up around drugs or their parents were doing drugs. And still others just think that drugs are the only thing that can help them. Not only that but often parties will have drugs and they want to seem "cool" so they try the drug and pretty soon they are addicted and are going back for more and more of the drugs.
