My wife is 35 weeks and 4 days pregnant. We saw an ob yesterday and she said she was 2 cm dilated. I know a lot about labor and birth. First of all I think it would be best if your baby stays in there for another week or so. But thats playing it safe. Here is what you can do to speed up the labor. Sexual intercourse, Walking around more, Sexual arousal, When you are feeling in the mood your body produces something that stimulates labor, As does semen. Also look into a labor ball. Once you loose your mucus plug (bloody show) it is a sign labor is not far away. I hope this was helpful for you. Good luck and god bless an epidural.
I work for a pediatrician and I can tell you they will STOP your labor at the hospital if you come in before 37 weeks. A baby is not considered full term until at LEAST 37 weeks. Most people are right, you want them in there as long as possible! Baby's we see who did not reach gestation have so many more health issues. My daughter was born at 37 1/2 weeks as still had to stay in the hospital for a week due to jaundice, her liver wasn't ready.
Now having said that, there are only a few proven scientific methods for inducing labor. Laxatives work but are not safe! Walking helps once you are already in labor. Sperm doesn't have a chemical in in that causes labor, what it DOES do is soften & ripen the cervix. Thus it's the only sure way to speed things up!
Hope this helped, I'm 36 weeks & right there with you! Good Luck & I wish you an easy labor & a healthy baby!

I'd let your baby stay in there for another week so she can be considered full term. I'm 38 1/2 weeks pregnant, dilated to 3 and am anxiously waiting for her to come. I've tried everything. I was 2 cm dilated last week and a week later at a 3. And the only thing that has worked is walking and having sex with my husband. Just wait another week atleast! I know towards the end you're just wanting your baby to be here but it'll be worth the wait!!
Of all the posts I've read and things I've heard from doctors and others, I've never heard of someone having to stay on bed rest and even use a bedpan because they've started to dilate and efface. You could stay that way for weeks; early dilation doesn't necessarily mean labor is imminent.
Yes. Your labor will be here any time. I suggest very strongly you stay on bed rest, feet elevated at all times. You need to try and keep the baby in the oven a little while longer if you can. I have been a maternity nurse for 15 years and I have seen many times what can happen at this stage of the game. Not to scare you but try to stay in bed. While you are laying in bed you can also lay on your right side to give the baby more room for oxygen. If you start to contract stay on your side do not get up for anything. If you have a bedpan use it. If not ok to use bathroom. If you feel like you need to have a bowel movement have someone with you because you could actually be feeling the need to push. At 10 min apart go to hospital. Call Dr ahead of time to let him know you are in labor. He may want you to come early to stop labor.
In my opinion you shouldn't try to start labor yourself. Your baby will come when she or he is good and ready or when the doctor decides it's ready. My little girl was born at 36 weeks,
she was only four and a half pounds. Trust me having a little baby is not fun, it is scary!! Just because you are starting to dilate doesn't mean she's ready to come out you can be dilated for weeks! Leave it alone!!

I'm 36 weeks and 2 days now and have been walking, swimming, and doing the dirty. I'm not doing it to start labor but to help when she does decide to say, "Hey mommy, ready or not here I come!" But definetly wait another week to induce yourself..I was also told with my first daughter, 3, that bumpy rides may also help.
I agree w/ the guest answer above, and what's more is that it's the left side you lay on for increased oxygen not your right side!
You are way to early to induce your labor. The baby will come when he/she is ready, trust me he /she wont stay in there forever. Be calm and let the baby bake a little longer. You don't have much longer to go. You have made it this far whats a few more weeks. You can do it girl. Good luck sweetheart and have a bless and healthy baby.
I am 37 weeks today and found out I am dilated to a 2 I feel a lot more pain now then I did today! I wonder if I will have him soon. But the only thing ican say is laxitives which isn't healthy for baby , walking and sex or placing a warm towel that just got out of the dryer over your breasts.
If you are worried about going into labor, call your doctor. Or go to the emergency room. It is better to be safe than sorry.
I'm sorry to say this but you could be 2 cm for the next 3 weeks that does not mean you will go into labor soon
Either walking or sex. There is a chemical in sperm that can help work at making things happen faster. Hope you have an easy and healthy delivery. Congrats
Sex is what the Dr told my sister. Walking might help to but not real fast. I walked with my last baby and well I went into labor at 32 weeks. Not a good thing for me. Try the sex and walking Good Luck
You should wait more because active labor starts when dilation is 4-7 cm and at the time of delivery it can be 10 cm.
