A menstrual cycle always starts with the periods. So, day one of the periods is day one of the cycle. You can calculate your ovulation by counting from first day of the periods up to day 14 of the cycle which is more likely the day of ovulation in a 28 days cycle. But some ladies can get early and some late ovulation. So, menstrual cycle starts with periods.
