The causes of unusually high sweating at night are numerous. As a woman, I can tell you that one definite cause is hormones!

Anything from my 'time of the month' through to when I hit menopause would cause some very sweaty nights.

What causes night sweats?
Night sweats (also known to people in the medical field as nocturnal hyperhidrosis) can be linked to a wide range of conditions.

The simplest grade of night sweats to treat is caused by environmental factors. As someone that lives in humid ol' Louisiana, I know more about this than most people.

These factors include:

  • room temperature
  • bedding
  • the types of garments worn at night
Solving sweating caused by these factors should be pretty obvious.

Why do I get sweaty at night?

As far as medical conditions go, night sweats can be caused by certain types of medication, and also by hormone imbalances.

Also (and I don't mean to get you all panicked) but night sweats can also be linked to some more serious medical conditions.

These conditions include various infections, cancers, low blood sugar, and HIV/AIDS.

Treatment of these conditions can definitely combat the symptom of night sweats.

How to treat night sweats

The method used to relieve night sweats varies on the cause of the problem - but one technique used to help is adjusting the diet of the affected individual.

Some have found success with synthetic hormone replacement therapy.

Many people also find that avoiding alcohol or spicy foods gives them a better night sleep without night sweats.

You can also try taking a cold shower each night before you go to bed.

If this problem is continual or reoccurring, please contact a doctor as night sweats can be a sign of a more serious problem.

Night Sweats in men are not commonly discussed - but female hot flashes and menopause night sweats have been covered extensively by the public at large.

True night sweats and sleep disorders related to night sweats in men are from simple environmental heat experienced by many.

Forty percent of all doctor visits involve a complaint about night sweating, yet a much smaller percentage of these visits actually involve a real clinical case of sleep hyperhidrosis or idiopathic hyperhidrosis.

The first cause of night sweats in men is andropause. Yes, andropause, sometimes referred to as male menopause.
