The normal HCG levels in non-pregnant women are generally below 5 mIU, milli International Units, per milliliter. This means that as a rule, the levels of HCG in non-pregnant women are basically undetectable.

  • What is HGC?
HGC, or human chorionic gonadotrophin, is a so-called glycoprotein hormone, which is produced at any age in the pituitary glands of both men and women. During a pregnancy, it is initially produced after conception by a developing embryo; later on, the production is taken over by a part, or component of the placenta. This part is known as the syncytiotrophoblast.

Though definitely related, it is as yet unknown whether the production of this hormone is an effect of or a cause of tumorigenesis, or the growth or formation of tumors.

  • HCG Levels in non-pregnant and pregnant women
Below is a rough guide to HCG levels in both non-pregnant and pregnant women at various stages, or weeks since the last monthly period, during pregnancy.

Level in non-pregnant women is below 5.0 mIU/ml
Level in post-menopausal women is below 9.5 mIU/ml
Level at three weeks of pregnancy is 5 - 50 mIU/ml
Level at four weeks is 5 to 426 mIU/ml
Level at five weeks is 18 to 7,340 mIU/ml
Level at six weeks is 1,080 to 56,500 mIU/ml
Level at seven to eight weeks is 7,650 to 229,000 mIU/ml
Level at nine to 12 weeks is 25,700 to 288,000 mIU/ml
Level at 13 to 16 weeks is 13,300 to 254,000 mIU/ml
Level at 17 to 24 weeks is 4,060 to 165,400 mIU/ml

I did my hcg test on the seventh day of conception . And it was 4.5 .does thatmean I'm pregnant..? The lab concluded it by saying:
Levels below 5 mean that either the woman is not pregnant or its too early to detect pregnancy.so could you plz tell if I'm pregnant or not?

The level of hcg in non pregnant women should be around 2 or under 2 but not more than that. But there are different criteria for different labs as some say that normal level is under 4 or even 5 .

In the nonpregnant woman, no units are detectable because there are no trophoblast cells producing hCG.

Woman or mother does not produce hCG hormone. This hormone is produced by the fertilized egg after the implantation. Presence of this hormone in blood and urine indicates pregnancy. HCG levels of 0-5 means no pregnancy while a levels over 25 are due to pregnancy.
