Alcohol is metabolized in liver and is excreted through kidneys quickly within 2-3 hours. But one of the metabolites of alcohol called ethylglucuronide which can stay for longer duration in the system. A test in the laboratory called EtG test can detect this metabolite for up to 80 hours. This test can not detect the amount of alcohol used but can tell that alcohol was taken within last 5 days.
