I don't understand why people think it's so "bad for you". Yes it may cause memory loss and your motor skills may be altered. But what does alcohol do to you? That's legal. If Marijuana was harmful to you're health, it wouldn't be used for medical purposes to help people with Cancer, Arthritis, etc. It's also not addictive.

I smoke weed, and my entire household does. If I could choose to, I would everyday because it helps me relax, and I have bad insomnia so it greatly helps me sleep...I'm not saying smoke weed, if you don't you don't, if you do you do. It's whatever, don't make a huge deal about it. I hate the people who are WAY to open about like they "need it" to survive. Or those people who HATE it and EVERYONE who does it.

Out of all the people I know, I'd say at least half or more does it. I'd say at least %80 or more of my school does it, including teachers. Me and my friends do, my brother and his friends do, my mother and her friends do. There is a good amount of people who do it...Much more then people who don't smoke think.

I say it should be legal...It's much less harmful and addictive then cigarettes and alcohol and both of those things are legal. Make it so only people 17+ or 18+ can buy it. People need to open their eyes and realize it's not that bad. I see it being legal in at least the next 4 to 6 years.

Well, aside from statistics which are too variable to use.  I will create a sample set from my life.  I live in Canada.  I am 23.  At my one job where I am a manager, 100% of my staff smokes.  This is 23 people.  Out of the last department I was in, Half smoked.  This is 5/10.  Out of my department I supervised before that, 75% smoked. 22 people.   Ages range from 18 (You must be 18 to work at my job because of machinery etc)  to 66. Out of my entire workplace I have found that roughly 79% of the staff smoke (125 people out of 162).  My job has 3 types of people, students, retirees, and middle management. This is not just the younger people smoking.  A good amount are the older folks and they are very open about the fact that they smoke.  The middle management have less smokers then the other categories but I also find that they are less vocal because of the professional demeanor that they must maintain.  The younger groups pretty much all smoke.

In my second job as a server the management all smoke and are very open about it.6/6.  All the kitchen staff smoke, Out of the 32 servers 31 of them smoke or have smoked.  The 16 year old hostesses all smoke. 6/6.  The dish people 4/6 smoke.

In my previous jobs I would say everyone I have had has over 50% that smoke or condone smoking.

My friends pretty much all smoke and they are professionals in their fields.  Architects, Scientist, Chemistry Masters, Psychology Masters, Nurses, Pharmacy Masters, Optometrists, Business owners , Marathon runners(Myself included), Teachers, Carpenters, Property Managers, Law Masters, IT gurus and more.   With every field I know one or more people who smoke and they are considered experts.

The more places I go and the more people I ask, the more it seems that weed is the norm in life.  Don't worry though, eventually we will legalize.  "Every day an asshole dies and everyday an 18 year old can vote."

I am 15 years old and a junior in highschool. I smoke weed quite a bit and don't regret it at all. I would say 40 to 60 percent of my school smokes weed. I don't think it is all that bad, I mean its better for you than cigarettes. My dad died when I was twelve and I got to say marijuana is why I'm still here today. Before I started smoking I used to have suicidal and homicidal thoughts. Ever since I started smoking weed I havent had a single thought about that. My family dosnt know I do it but ever since I started I have been getting along with them better. I don't seem to isolate myself from them as much either. And I'm not one of those kids that threw their life away for pot either. I am in an internship in a medical college I am planning on going to college through the rest of my highschool years and go on to get a degree in oncology. I have made it into all accelerated classes. my grades have actually gone up (probley from getting rid of the depression). I'm not lazy I play football and wrestle and out looking for a job or two to help out the family. I really think that it should be legalized. Mabey not for kids my age but for 21+. Plus this would help stimulate the economy (not by much but any little bit helps), lower the prison populaton, get rid of some of the drug related issues. If they are worried about some people not wanting to be around it make it like ohio smoking laws where you can't smoke it in public places. It may be abused at first but in the long run it will be an every day thing and people wont feel the urge to abuse it. Please leave your comments. I want to hear what the rest of you think of what I just said.

Seems pretty intelligent as a set of arguments, there. I also believe in not encouraging or tolerating kids to smoke under 21 years old (maybe even under 25 years old!) This is not because they have to conform to a 'straight' life, but because the brain is still malleable and not yet solidified until that approximate age (which is also very subjective).

Oh, and I've been severely abused as a child, and had plenty of brutal thoughts.

Weed is one of the only things in life that gets me away from that temporarily. I have a significantly-above-average IQ and am an experienced IT Technician, where I won't smoke the same day before the job as to be realistic, it's incompatible.
I'd rather all the ridiculous anti-cannabis efforts of the last 40 years, had been put into combating child abuse, instead.

Sex is the other thing that gets me away from my demons and makes me feel free and human.
However, due to my severe abuse (which wasn't even sexual for the most part), it's hard to get into a relationship without harming myself or the other person. So I take responsibility and simply avoid it at the moment for years now. You know what it's like going years without the self-esteem-boost of sex?
Leaving only cannabis as a release - allied to some damn good music, and some hard exercise, mind-you.

Someone wanting to take that away from me, can rationally be described as more evil than that which they wish to portray cannabis users as.

I think the number is much higher than the people who don't smoke pot think. Having been a pot smoker for along time I have had the opportunity to meet a wide cross section of pop smokers and of course some people who don't/haven't. Because pot continues to be illegal the pot smokers (and we pot smokers know who you are) are going to keep it secret from the non pot smokers. My opinion about if pot should be made legal so adults can make their own decision if it's for them or not, is HELL YES! Think for a moment of along the good that would come of this. No more black market criminals running the show, setting the prices and making a ton of tax free money. No more making these hard working Americans (and these are the kind of people who own homes and send kids to college) who choose to smoke pot, because they enjoy it and think they were given the right to enjoy it by a higher authority than the DEA, common criminals. The cost to keep up the current war on drugs is shamefully high. The cost to incarcerate people for posesion, distribution or transportation of marijuana is staggering. Think of the battle that could be waged on cancer with all the money that legalization could net us. Pick some other social problem that a least more the 50% aren't guilty of being part of.

I really don't feel that anything is wrong with smoking weed and it really pisses me off that they call pot the "gateway drug" when really how many people tried pot before they drank? Now I don't smoke everyday mostly because I don't have any money but I don't think I would everyday anyway I still see it as a drug just as alcohol and should be used  responsibly which also brings up the point that it should be legalized! If you can pickle your liver and totally black out on alcohol why can't you get a little high? I personally know a lot of people who smoke including a good 75% of my family and I would say about 60% of students at my school and even higher with teachers!

Lets put it this way...I'm 20 ive been smoking for 4 years..my parents(49)-(50) both have at some point in their lives have smoked weed..every single parent of my friends has as well..thats about 24 people. I Work 2 jobs, One in a restaurant with no drug testing..obv everyone smokes..even the managers. My other job which I will not mention for insurance purposes..Is a strict no drug policy type...and still more than a third of the employees who's ages range from 17-31 smoke..so I don't know what obama is wating for on decriminalizing our beloved plant..if he was to turn it all upside down and sell/regulate it like tobacco..our economy could see a huge  turn around within 3 years I think. Just my Opinion.

I'm 56 and have been smoking since I was 16. There have been periods as long as 8 years when I did not smoke. I felt it was necessary at the time to be totally focused. At this point in my life I take breaks of a month or so. When I am smoking - I do it daily. I have many friends who smoke. Gradually I am finding that more and more people I know smoke. My friends range from mid 30's to late 50's. Most of them are either professionals or business owners. I am so ready for weed to be legalized. I feel that now is the time for the government and the conservatives to be grown up about it and let the public speak. (I feel that weed should be like alcohol in that it is not for minors)

Let's just say this. Most of the adult work smokes pot. Its very normal. Now, just like alcohol or tobacco, there are people who hate it or love it. But the fact is that Cannabis has not directly caused human casualty. Alcohol can cause alcohol poisoning, and tobacco products have so many toxic additives, that dippers can lose a lip in as little as 4 years. Now, if this plant were taxed, it would suck. But ww2 sucked right? But thats what ended the depression. Let weed be our generations World War Two!

LEGALIZE IT!

I smoke weed once or twice a day everyday. Really helps me relax, and get to sleep after a long day. Classes in college are tough and there's nothing like a nice bowl to smoke in the evening. I say as long as you don't let it rule your life then smoke away. Similar to the phrase "guns don't kill people, people kill people".

I believe the same thing. If california alone legalized it for recreational use they could grab over 1.3 bil a year and if all the states legalized it and regulated it multiply that 1.3 bill by the 50 states and you get a estimate of how much extra we could be getting to turn around this supposed "recession". Ha  I still havent answered your question though in my school I know of probably half the school body does it. I know about another twenty five percent thats tried it and I know some teachers that smoke also.

I think that at least 50% of the people in the world smoke weed. It is a natural thing so how can it bad for you. I'm 17 and ive been smoking weed since I was in grade 8 90% of my friends smoke weed. There is one problem if the government makes weed legal and thats the taxes on it.

Taxes isn't a bad thing, that just means that quality will go up while the government makes money to take away from our deficit. Also, with less money being spent to catch and imprison people who grow, sell, or smoke marijuana, America can once again be the wealthiest nation in the world.

If you think 50% of ppl smoke it youre already f*cked up in the head from too much pet, it may be grown but do you know what THC is? Its an acid and last time i checked acid is not natural and bad for you. And how can it be bad for you? Youre dumb as a rock, it can increase your chance of a heart attack by 5% in the first hour you smoke it, 90% of lung cancer is from smoking, so have fun getting parts of your lungs cut out by doctors who told you it was bad for you.
Coque Givah
Coque Givah commented
Er, Tyler, SEX can increase your chance of a heart attack more than 5%, but 5% isn't much when you're in shape. If you're not in shape, then worry about something more than the 5% risk of cannabis smoke (actually oxygen deprivation allied with blood-pressure-lowering effect, which is what makes it medically-good for Glaucoma).
Vinegar is an acid, is vinegar on a salad bad for you?

I know me and my husband, and  a couple of neighbors smoke.  We (me and my hubby) smoke on a daily basis but is like some have said, I myself wonder about the estimated percentage but it's not like we adult, working class, parents go telling the world about it.  Come on, smoking pot makes us potheads "criminals".  I work,I  feed, clothe, and send my kids to school, help them with homework, go to pta's, pay my bills, pay my taxes, etc.  I don't know, but I consider myself a law abiding citizen and I don't think smoking ganja should be a crime.  Just legalize it and get it over with!!

I smoke weed sometimes a lot everyday. I don't see the downside to it. It helps me focus on school work, I normally don't eat but it increases my apitite, and it's fun. All my friends do it. I know for sure that over 80% of my school does it. (about 1500 students). I must add that my mom and my step dad do it. My ant and uncle do weed and my grandma too. That's a lot of people that I know for SURE!!

Now just give up the booze, the deep-fried unhealthy food, and get out there with your pot and enjoy the unique and pride-inducing great Scottish outdoors, yes, even in the rain or cold. THEN Scottish people might increase their life-expectancy, as they probably deserve, if you look at things in a historical time-scale.

At the beginning of the 21st century, it was estimated that marijuana, which is also known as cannabis, ganja and hashish, was regularly used by about four per cent of the total population of the world. In other words, out of every 100 people in the world, four people are regular users of marijuana.

In the Western countries, the percentage pf people who are regular users of marijuana is estimated to be even higher than the world average. It is estimated that about 20 per cent or more of the total adult population of the United States of America have admitted to having tried the plant. It is estimated that between 10 per cent and 30 per cent of the total adult population of Europe have admitted to having tried the plant.

In other words, the use of marijuana in the United States of America is about five times the world average and in Europe, it is between two-and-a-half per cent and seven-and-a half per cent of the world average.

Okay,, well, I know alotta people that smoke weed in my school, but I'm not ona them, and I understand that everyone has they're own opinion on smoking and non smoking and I respect that, but personally, I wouldn't do it,, I mean like my boyfriend smokes weed,, or smoked it,,, apparently he "stopped" for me,, I don't know if hes telling the truth or not, but whatever I still love him either way,,well anyways the reason I wouldn't do it is cause, well its not good for you, the smoke still hurts your lungs , and yea they do give it to cancer patients, but thats because cancer patients need it,theyre sick. And sure it could help you focus and relax, but they'res way more ways to do that (trust me I would kno, I'm a stressed out kid). And plus weed can't make your problems disappear forever, only for a short time until it gets outta your system, then after I'm sure your problems come back

oh, and for that one guy who said that weed is God, I think your wrong

I don't think you can really answer this question.. I smoke myself.. Everyday.. I know many many many many other who also do so.. But a lot of "pot Heads" are not public about there smoking.. So there is no real way to tell how many people smoke.. The number could be much higher then its would seem.. But I would say most americans have at least tried it.. Its not for everyone.. But most pot heads seem to stick together so it is no shock that it seems like everyone smokes if you do so yourself.

Personally I do not smoke and never have. I just never really saw a point to it with school work and athletics. However I do respect other peoples choices and people who do smoke. Now I don't know how old you are but once you hit high school or college you will probably notice that more and more people begin to smoke. About 10 out of 12 of my closest childhood friends smoke on a regular basis, one smokes occasionally and the last one just chooses not to. From my personal experiences I would say 70-80% of people have tried Marijuana in their lives, but only 30-40% do it regularly.

At my old school in outback Australia (I wont be precise on location)... I knew of 8 techers who regularly smoked weed.. Including the principle!! Lol. My history teacher had a massive plant in his backyard and me and his son would often smoke it. Its not like the censis asks"do you smoke weed".. So how would anyone know about these smokers? I think any stats on this topic would be false.. No one I know is going to go public about their smoking of weed.. Neither would I. So if the pole says 5%, 10% 20% or whatever. It can't be right. Because I was never asked so how could they have included me?? I reckon bout 15% of aussies smoke weed tho.

Lyrics to Green To Black :
Do you feel it now music’s up in you
Do you feel it loud straight to the ears man
It’s that mean bass singing pleasure to meet you
The green and black throw it up so we see you

Do you feel the sound? It’s coming straight through the waves
While the music from the Earth keeps us sane
I'm feeling that herb when the sun hits my face
You create your mind so make your mental space

Much respect to all the people thinking green
Not just the color but the message in between
Here’s a mental weapon that you’ll use frequently
To stop evil people and end their beliefs

Green turned to black, green smoked to black, green burnt to black
Yea that’s what we stand for

Well Mr. Tough guy he fights physically
When all the people really need is some peace
It are these moments where we turn to our needs
It never caused no death nor disease

Don’t try to make it seem like we’re some foolish youth
Throwing away our lives, but we’re searching for the truth
Don’t need authority/rules while we go unheard
See there isn’t any crime using herbs

Much respect to all the people thinking green
Not just the color but the message in between
Here’s a mental weapon that you use frequently
To stop evil people and end their beliefs

Look one fat dutch of weed is healthier than one newport or a couple of beers. Weed should be legalized because it will also stop drug violence.I also know that, honestly about75 to 90 percent of my school smokes. But I'm still looking for an answer because some people are shy to tell.! Not me tho, and that's all.

You know, if you like dying at a faster rate, eating a dangerous plant that makes you high and makes you have problems with memory and learning, distorted perception ,trouble with thinking and problem solving ,loss of motor coordination and ,increased heart rate, cancer, breathing problems, immune system problems, and you like not caring about anything then marijuana is fantasic! (sarcasm intended). That is all I'm saying. If you all want to go and smoke marijuana then go ahead. I'm not saying you shouldn't but the above are all the risks of marijuana. I just thought I would inform you. You know I don't know anyone who smokes it. I guess I live in a good safe town. Btw it is NOT good for you if you haven't noticed!

YOU GUYS ARE SCREWED UP!! Smoking marijuana can cause significant health problems. Marijuana contains more than 400 chemicals, of which 60 are cannabinoids. Smoking a marijuana cigarette deposits about three to five times more tar into the lungs than one filtered tobacco cigarette. Consequently, regular marijuana smokers suffer from many of the same health problems as tobacco smokers, such as chronic coughing and wheezing, chest colds, and chronic bronchitis. In fact, studies show that smoking three to four joints per day causes at least as much harm to the respiratory system as smoking a full pack of cigarettes every day.Marijuana smoke also contains 50 to 70 percent more carcinogenic hydrocarbons than tobacco smoke and produces high levels of an enzyme that converts certain hydrocarbons into malignant cells. In addition, smoking marijuana can lead to increased anxiety, panic attacks, depression, social withdrawal, and other mental health problems, particularly for teens. Research shows that kids aged 12 to 17 who smoke marijuana weekly are three times more likely than nonusers to have suicidal thoughts. Marijuana use also can cause cognitive impairment, to include such short-term effects as distorted perception, memory loss, and trouble with thinking and problem solving. Students with an average grade of D or below were found to be more than four times as likely to have used marijuana in the past year as youths who reported an average grade of A.For young people, whose brains are still developing, these effects are particularly problematic and jeopardize their ability to achieve their full potential.Convinced?
