Brown period blood comes at the end of your period, so this is a sign that your period is about to end. As for it smelling this is due to bacteria and is nothing to worry about.

It is easy for women to feel very self conscious when it comes to their bodies and especially when it comes to any irregular smells than normal. It is not unusual for the brown blood at the end of your period to 'pong' a little; this is due to bacteria that are now expelling from your body. Your body does this so that it becomes clean; it is a self cleaning system. If it still continues after a week or more after your period has ended then there may be more to this than first meets the eye.

The female anatomy is still not yet fully understood and the answers to these types of questions can become very complex as there are so many different variations of illnesses and disease. If you are really worried when it comes to any part of your body, especially your vagina or anything that comes out of it you need to visit your doctor or you gynaecologist who can put any fears that you may have to rest. They can also prescribe you any medication that you may need to address any problem if there is in fact one.

There are plenty of products on the market currently that are aimed at women and their private parts. There are wipes, washes, powders and creams all designed to help you with your vaginal hygiene.  All of them are very reasonably priced and if you feel self conscious walking into a store and buying them, then you can order them online where they will be posted to you discreetly.

Trying out this method of using cleansing products before going to a doctor can save you time and worry so these are the best first ports of call, if you find that they do not help or that the problem still continues then a trip to the gynaecologist is the best solution. But in the mean time try not to worry and relax, every woman experiences this from time to time.

This happened to me recently.. And I was really worried about it. But I found out that if you are on the pill, and take it continuously for 3 months and then break.. Your period changes - the colour, the smell and the amount. It's just because you are holding it inside, so it turns to old blood, hence the brownish colour and the smell.

I have recently been trying to fall pregnant, my period was different this month, it started off heavy, dark and watery, for 2 days, then stopped for 24 hours, then came back light and watery for 3 days, yesterday which was the 2nd day of the 3day stretch I noticed a really foul odour, like something was rotten, I have never had this problem before and don't know what to make of it...

I've been on a birth control shot for almost 6 months and I was on my period thee whole time. I just stoped a week ago and I'm spotting and it's dark brown and smells really bad. Is that normal? I don't think it would be old blood since I bleed for so long all ready.

The shot was not an option for me. It made me faint. I don't think it is safe to take. Our bodies are not meant to have a period for so long or post pone it for any amount of time.i take BC pills. For 30 years i have had a normal period til my miscarriage 3 months ago. Then the odor happened with my period after that. When our bodies are set off it's normal balance it tries to fix itself. It could be the iron in your blood or our ph is off from too much bleeding. Take probiotics and ask a doc.

This is the first time I've noticed a smell, but its not a fishy smell. I'm concerned.. I havent had a baby or a pregnancy, and I don't use tampons, and I'm not on the pill....

With my experience the fresh red color is good. The browner blood is older blood. It also comes from straining and overworking your body during the time of one week prior to you period. My suggestion is to do lighter duty work the week of and prior to your period. I had to have a hysterectomy at age 22. I waitressed and was on my feet all day and night. My blood was a browner color and with fist-size clots. When I started doing lighter work my blood color changed back to the bright red, of course, after the hysterectomy no more periods. It can't hurt to try what I am suggesting.

Please just be nice to yourself and NEVER use those EVE products. They have a way of making things worse. You need to know why you are having a change. Just go to doctor. I say this because when your body does any change that is different you need to know why. It isn't because you had a baby for heaven's sake. Please just make an appointment and be good to yourself and be good to your baby's mommy :) You need to know medical reason. It could be a many things and it can be corrected most likely so you can get back to feeling better.

I'v only just started my period and its like this aswell I don't know why but I don't think it means anything to bad as I havent missed any months so its not because you missed them, its just that the blood had dried, and everybody smells different anyway so don't worry about it, but if you can sleep over it because its on your mind visit your local doctors and ask them.

That happened to one of my friends after she gave birth and her doctor recommended for her to use a wash for the vagina that will help the odor to eventually leave, you can use this wash called EVE its really good and it actually helps.

This can be due to stress and over doing it.  Don't worry it will go but can come back. Its quite comm an if you have had a baby, termination or a miscarriage. Your body is releasing the old blood and it will smell because it can be quite old.

This is what many posts I have been reading had said. It helps me A LOT because I am 27 and this is the first time I have ever had it happen. Makes sense though, because I just started working out and I had been dealing with a ton of stress lately as well. I don't particularly enjoy this time of the month usually but this time it scared me. Thanks for the post and the reasurance that I am normal!!

You could have left a tampon in....very distinct smell! I had it happen to me once and the way you explain it..it sounds just like what was going on with me. Go to your ob/gyn and they will take care of it for you! Also the pills you have to take after doing that cost $150.

I had a miscarriage over 3 months ago and I have not been the same since. My first 2 periods came early and my last period had a foul odor. My gyno said it was just the bacteria left over and gave an antibiotic. I took the med.(flagyl) and was cleared up. Now this period has the same smell. It does suck to be woman sometimes but we need to demand answers from our doctors. I am on antibiotics for my wisdom teeth removal. I shouldn't have any bacteria. I will call that doctor and ask what's the problem and demand a resolution...
