I can't see in your mouth so I don't know how these white patches look. I would recommend having an oral cancer screening done at a dental office.

Your mouth is a bacterial breeding ground. You said your mouth is bad and you have receding gums. If its been a long time since you have been to the dentist then you may very well have that. It may just be puss around your teeth.
Either way, you should go to a dentist and get this under control. Your mouth is part of your body and letting things get worse with certain diseases can cause other things to go wrong in your body, not just your mouth.
