Having irregular periods makes it extremely difficult to calculate non-fertile days so I would NOT recommend that you use this as a method of contraception (if that is your aim). There are fertility monitors you can get from any drugstore, which are much like the pregnancy test kit, although I still would not recommend that as a fail-safe way of monitoring your 'safe' days. The best option is to get on the pill and these will regulate your period as well.
Also, it may be wise to keep a diary of your cycle and then present them to your doctor he/she can investigate why your periods are irregular. A simple hormone assay and some scans (if necessary) should give a good idea why. Finally I have assumed you are sexually active and if so, please remember that pregnancy is the least of the things you should be thinking about with a partner. There are multitudes of reasons why you should ALWAYS ensure you and your partner use a condom even if you're on the pill. Sounds a bit extreme, but it really is best to always be safe even if you have been together for a while!!

I hope this helps.
