During the first week of the fourth month, you will be seventeen weeks pregnant. At seventeen weeks, your baby will weigh about 140g, and be almost 11cm from head to rump.

He or she will be growing much stronger, and is about to go through a big growth spurt.

By eighteen weeks, your baby will have grown another centimetre, and will weigh another 50g. By this time, his or her ears will be in their final position, and they will be able to:

  • roll
  • kick
  • reach out for things
  • play with the umbilical cord;
  • suck their thumb.
If you are having a girl, then her uterus (womb), vagina, and fallopian tubes are all in place, while, if you're having a boy, his genitals will be recognisable during a scan.

At nineteen weeks, you are halfway through your pregnancy! Your baby now weighs around 240g and measures just over 14cm.

Each of the nerve cells which are required for the use of the five senses (sight, smell, hearing, taste, and touch) are developing in their specific areas of the brain, and hair may have started sprouting at the top of your baby's head. You might start to feel your baby moving around now, too!

By twenty weeks, your baby has grown to 16 and a half centimetres. Bear in mind that all babies develop differently, though - really this is all an approximation.
