It is really only 2 weeks old, because they say when you miss your period you are already 4 weeks pregnant. You wouldn't be able to see it with an ultrasound, maybe a microscope. At 5 weeks 2 days it is the earliest you can see the fetus by ultrasound and that is really difficult sometimes, it looks like a tiny fleck of tissue that has a flickering in the middle. This heart just flickers it looks like when you place your hands together and the long ways open and close them. It is rudimentary still and doesn't have the typical appearance of a heart. The heart takes up a large part of the fetus at this point. It is so small that sometimes the flicker is the give away, really small!!! At 8-9 weeks pregnant it looks kinda like a teddy bear. You can see the head and body with little arm and leg buds. It is so cute!!!! 10-11 weeks it looks like a like a frog to me :) It has long legs and arms, the face can look alien like sometimes(by ultrasound). All of this is by ultrasound by the way. I have never seen these with my naked eye. A pathologist may have a better take on it. After 11 weeks it really starts looking like a baby. That is why 1st trimester is so important, everything is developing so rapidly. I mean one week you don't have arms and the next you do, crazy isn't it!
