The term Ovulation refers to the process that occurs whenever a mature egg gets released from the ovary of a woman. This egg is pushed down the fallopian tube, and then becomes available to be fertilized by sperms. During ovulation, the lining of the uterus gets thickened so as to prepare for a fertilized egg. How ever, If no conception occurs, that is when the egg does not get fertilized by a sperm, the uterine lining will be shed. Along with the uterine line, some blood is shed too. This is the blood you see during your period. The shedding of an egg that has not been fertilized and the shedding of the uterine wall what is referred to as menstruation.
There fore, if you have not yet gotten your period, that does not mean that you will not ovulate. You will ovulate before your period comes. In fact there is not really an established connection between the two. Ovulation can occur even if you are not menstruating and you can even get your period even if you have not ovulated. If there has to be a connection, then your period will come after you ovulate and not the other way around. You ovulate before you get your period instead of getting your period before ovulating.
