 Almonds,eggs, salmon, soy, greens, apples and berries and yoghurt.

I think the best way would be to make sure you get a healthy, balanced diet along with doing some exercises.

The best way to maintain a healthy diet is to make it easy! I just eat what I want but have tried to make simple, easy changes about what I eat and drink. Here are some ideas for a healthy diet below:

Fruit and vegetables

Fruit and veg are vital parts of your diet. They're packed with vitamins and minerals, along with loads of fibre to keep your digestive system healthy. Everyone knows you should eat at least 5 portions a day, so if you're trying to get a toned stomach make sure you're definitely eating this amount every day!

Carbohydrates

Although a lot of people say that you should cut out the carbs when you're dieting, I don't believe in that. Of course you shouldn't be eating tons of carbs from biscuits and the like, but foods like pasta, rice and potatoes release energy slowly, so your diet needs to be based on these foods! Try to choose wholegrain options where possible.

Dairy products

Milk and yoghurt are essential for bone growth and strength, because they contain calcium. They can be high in fat though, so try to choose skimmed milk and low-fat yoghurts, although watch out that the fat hasn't been replaced with lots of sugar (as this is also very calorific as well as bad for your teeth!). Try to eat about 4 portions a day.

Protein

Protein is very important for the growth and repair of cells, as well as providing you with iron. Red meat is very good for iron content, but try to choose lean options. The best high protein meats are meats like chicken or turkey. As a vegetarian, I get my protein from eggs and beans and pulses - but make sure you eat a lot of these if you don't eat meat, as the iron is not absorbed as well as from red meat and there is a chance of becoming anaemic.

Exercise

I think the key to getting a toned stomach, along with a healthy diet, is to do appropriate exercise. Running or jogging is a great way to tone the whole body, but if you don't fancy that, you could try yoga or one of the 30 day challenges.

The best thing about this website is it also tells you how to do the exercises, which I really needed! The ab challenge involves you doing sit ups, crunches, leg raises and the plank for different reps/seconds per day. It pretty much goes up in equal intervals, and you get a rest day every 4 days. You start on 15 sit ups, 5 crunches, 5 leg raises and a 10 second plank, and end up on day 30 with 125 sit ups, 200 crunches, 65 leg raises and a 120 second plank! The results are well worth it.

There are other challenges you can find on that website though, if the ab challenge doesn't suit you.
