How Soon Can I Get Pregnant After One Depo Shot?

Choosing the depo shot as birth control is your own personal decision, and every woman uses something different. However, the progesterone is so strong within the shots that you will not get pregnant as soon as the shot wears off. Timescales for this are different for every woman, but it is recommended that you do not expect to get pregnant in the first year after your depo shot. Our bodies have to come back to the natural balances of hormones before we are able to get pregnant. The simple answer is that it is going to take a long time for you to get pregnant after the shot, and that you shouldn’t expect pregnancy within the first 12 months.

After your depo shot you will notice a difference in your hormones. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re pregnant, and you should be aware that it is going to take a few months for your monthly hormones to balance and work with one another again. When the natural balance has returned and your monthly cycle is getting back to normal, you can then start looking out for any signs of pregnancy.

It is going to be a long process that you should be prepared to be patient for. Work with your body to ensure that the process can be swift and painless. You can do this by not trying to force pregnancy by taking any other medications as your body isn’t going to be ready for it. Waiting  for it to happen naturally is the best and safest way, and good things come to those who wait!

Hi, I was on d depo injection for nearly two years and then me and my boyfriend decided too try for a baby. I came off the shot in december and went straight onto the pill for three months too regulate my periods, I got pregnant in july!! I used too read all these peoples comments saying how they were trying too get pregnant for so long and I thought it would be the same for me, so don't  worry if it is taking a while it will happen!!

Hey ladies I'm here to let all of you know that you can become pregnant very soon after one depo injection..I had my first and last shot Jun 5th (decided to stay off because the symptoms were just as bad as pregnancy & the shot has bad side affects in the long run..I wouldnt recommend anyone to it) but anyways I was supposed return for my next shot between the last week of August to sept. 3rd but my husband and I decided we wanted to ttc I got my period within the same month on the 21st so to flush my system I drank a bunch of water. My husband I and started trying in October for our baby but nothing my period just came a day late the 22nd so in Nov. Of course we were still trying and within that month I started feeling the "depo symptoms again"..thats what I was told from the ppl at planned parenthood I explained to this lady  I had what I knew was implantation bleeding my boobs were sore, bad headaches, different appeite's and extremely moody sounds like pms but the implantation bleeding came 2 days (on the 20th) before my expected period and was very lite and last for only 3 1/2 days which is rare for me I'm usually more like 4 or 5 days long and not so lite but I guess planned parenthood only said that because I tested negative but I knew I was pregnant because I'm pretty in tune with my body Ive been pregnant before and miscarried...but anyways it is now Dec. And the symptoms only became worse I have Extremely bad headaches, really sore/swollen boobies no period, pissing every 5 mins and eatting whatever I can get my hands on, a lil sickness here and there but no vomitting yet with 2 +'s and a comfirmed 2 1/2 months from my doc

p.s ladies it may sound tiring but me and my husband were having sex almost everyday sometimes twice off my period days the only reason why we did it so much was because I couldnt tell if I was ovulating or not because the cervical mucus was so thick and not slippery as described but goodluck too you all and lotss of baby dust******(:

Ok, so I'm going to tell you what my doctors told me basically depo is designed to release progesterone which makes your body believe it is pregnant it releases this hormone to make your body think this to prevent pregnancy because when your body believes its pregnant it can not get pregnant again, however after the depo shot no matter how many you have had because all women are different it may take anywhere from 6-18 months after you stop depo to go back to normal. For many women the depo shot can cause weight gain, nausea, and severe mood swings sometimes cramping, fatigue and symptoms that you may have when you become pregnant or are about to start your period. Many women get confused and some even scared due to this factor. To answer one of the posts that I read above your doctor may prescribe birth control pills to try to get your hormones back on track but after trying for soo long to get pregnant he/she may prescribe you chlomid it is a fertility drug that helps your body prepare for pregnancy. I also recommend that you try Vitex chasteberry that can be found in any health store where they sell vitamins, b-12 is helpfull in preparing for pregnancy also, and b-6 shots help big time and it is also good for skin, hair, and nails. If you really want to get pregnant right away ask your doctor for a progesterone only type of birth control I suggest Implanon its about the size of a match stick and the doctor inserts it into your arm using a little needle after numbing the area you can hardly feel it, my personal experience after having been on it for 2 years I had it removed and became pregnant about a week later my boyfriend and I split up after I found out he was cheating and he wasn't very supportive anyway so decided to have a M.A though I wish I hadn't because I was soo in love with him but either way I believe that it is not a good idea to bring an innocent child into the world when the parents are going to be arguing or when the father decided from tha gate not to be there. I hope that my advice helps at least one of you, I speak from personal experience as when my first son was born I had all high risk specialty doctors that attended to me during my pregnancy. Wish you all the best of luck hope to hear you guys got pregnant soon

Hi the one shot and only shot I had gotten was may 22,2009, well I was supposed to take my 2nd shot but never did and never will. It is march 10th,2010 and we are still trying for our 2nd child. I never took the depo with my son. We are really wanting another baby so badly.  I wish I never took it. I am going to schedual an appointment to see if birth control PILLS will help get my normal period back and get pregnant faster if I stop taking it. I heard from soooo many ppl that they took depo and got off and got on the pills and stopped taking them for 2 weeks and got pregnant and got a regular period back. So I'm gonan try it and I hope yall try it too but ask your doctor about it

Hi there, my depo ran out April 25th, and were trying to conceive, I don't want to put a damper on things, but take at look at the rasingkids website, there a forum on there just for women trying to get pregnant after the depo, some have been trying nearly 2 years, its 900 pages long at present. A lot of women talk about the depo playing tricks with your body, false pregnancy symptoms, I too spotted 21st may, thought it was implantation bleeding, took loads of tests, what a waste of time!!! Don't get too this-heartened though, it can take a short while to get pregnant, but even if your periods return, it doesn't necessarily mean your ovulating. Go and join the forum, the girls are great on there, will give you loads of advice and are really friendly, heres the link www.raisingkids.co.uk
Sending you some baby dust

I am experiencing the same thing. Except I took a HPT and it came out as a faint positive twice. But when I went to the doctor, it was a negative. So I don't know what's going on. But I've been off the depo since november 17. I got it on august 26. I'm never going to get another one because I never got my period on it and that's not normal or hygienic. I'm going to wait a week or two and then go get an ultra sound. The doctor said that my stomach feels "full" and that it sounds like there's a lot of movement. So I'm thinking there may be a good chance that I am pregnant, so I'm on prenatal care just in case.

In 2004 I had a miscarriage then about a month later I fell pregnant again but ended up with an eptopic pregnancy which resulted in my left tube been took out, so I decided to go on to the depo shot but like a lot of people I wasnt told by my doc the side effects, me and my partner have decided we want to try for a baby, I have been on the depo for 5years constant, like most women have it every 12 weeks I had it every 10 weeks to cut the bleeding off that I would have towards the end of the shot, I had my last shot may 2009 which run out the end of july, I started my period back by september we have been trying for a baby since then but still have no luck, I know it could take up to 2years but I just wondered if anyone knows how id stand about becoming pregnant with all the stuff I have gone through, having a baby would mean the world to me, any advice would be greatful
