Delay in periods can be due pregnancy, depression, anxiety, polycystic ovarian disease, hormonal imbalance, use of hormonal medicines including hormonal birth control methods, thyroid problems, pituitary problems etc. Brown/dark color of the periods is usually due to old blood and usually occur in those ladies who have delayed periods. In my opinion, you should get pregnancy test first if you are sexually active and if the test is negative then visit a doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment of your problem.

It is normal to start periods with spotting or light brown discharge and light bleeding. This does not indicate any thing if you continue to bleed. Periods start when brain detects that there is no pregnancy and withdraw hormonal support for uterus. So, chances of pregnancy are absolutely poor when a woman starts her periods.

There are few ladies who can bleed during first few months of pregnancy. Reasons of this bleeding are not fully known. So, if you have any doubts in your mined then get pregnancy test to clear. In my opinion, you are not pregnant.
