When you first out them it will hurt to walk little and sit...Don't sweat it! My advice is to change it 5 times a day to get used to it! That's what I did and it worked!!! Keep using them til your period is done. By then it shouldn't hurt as much as you have been saying! After awhile you get used to it! If  it still hurt you may not be putting it in right or far enough,
hope this helps! I went through the same thing!

No its not, you shouldn't be able to feel it at all. It could be that you're not putting it in far enough, or perhaps try a smaller size

I'm going through the same thing at this moment in time. I can put it in a little but then it really starts to hurt and I can't put it in anymore.   But my mum says the key is to relax loads and spread your legs out nice and wide so the hole is nice and big. Then really concentrate and if needed use a mirror to guide yourself and keep taking deep breaths to relax yourself.
Hope this helps :)
also I'm using tampax compact with an plastic applicator.

I just tried my first tampon today and it wasn't very comfortable, it hurt a lot when I sit down. I googled it and it said that I might be putting it in sideways or not far enough.. One suggestion that I remember was putting Vaseline at the head of it. I just suggest getting used to it and trying different techniques (ie:putting one leg on the toilet seat) and I hope all goes well.

I've just started using a tampon today, I'm 17. I had tried a tampon ONCE before, and I couldn't get it in properly. It actually fell out to be honest. After researching on google and reading some things I learnt that the trick is to relax. I've got one in atm and it does feel awkward, but that's only because it's the first time I've left it in. Like everything else it will take some getting used to. But if it's really bothering you take it out. And if it's really hurting you or your really worried go see your GP/doc.

Good luck
p.s; I'm using lil-lets

It hurt me the first time, but it didn't hurt again after that. You just need to get used to it.

I just experienced the same thing as you but what I started doing was buy the smallest ones possible and then if you think that you can go bigger then next time get a litle bit bigger ones...you are going to need to keep on trying different ones until you find the ones that are perfect for you...GOOD LUCK

No it is not normal. You probably aren't inserting it properly. What you are describing will happen when insertion method is not done right. Read the directions that come in the box and try again.

Try trying junior size, it may be because it is made larger, at first, use a plastic applicator, because if not far enough in will cause pain and discomfort

It shouldn't be uncomfortable, it's probably not up high enough, read the instructions inside the box for proper insertion.

When I tried them, they were very uncomfortable to me. So I never used them, besides, I figured, if I wasn't born with it there, then maybe it shouldn't be there.
Then, out came a report that they can enhance the symptoms of "pre-menstrual syndrome".
If it doesn't feel right, I wouldn't use it. I would go and see a doctor as soon as I could if I were you. Hope this helps, good luck.

You may not have it in right or its the worng size. If that doesn't help I would just use pads or try different brands and types of tampons.
